The origin of a tradition
ASEA’s 12 Days of Celebration gets its name from the Twelve Days of Christmas, which has a strong gift-giving tradition. This beloved tradition in Christian theology represents the span between the birth of Jesus Christ and the coming of the Magi or the three wise men. Technically, it begins on December 25 and runs through January 6, also known as Three Kings’ Day. Many Christians believe that the Twelve Days of Christmas mark the time it took for the wise men to travel to Bethlehem. The four weeks preceding Christmas Day are known as Advent.
In popular culture, many choose to mark the 12-day feast days leading up to Christmas Day. The earliest version of the popular carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas” first appeared in 1780, and historians believe it originated in France.
