Guest authors and ASEA® athletes Cody and Kathy Waite have been competing professionally in sport training and endurance racing for 25 years. For the last 20 years, Cody has been racing at the professional level in road, mountain bike, and triathlon races. In the past 10 years, Kathy went from being a beginner to a National Champion on the XTERRA triathlon scene and winning mountain bike races in the Professional Women’s field. Together, Cody and Kathy make the dynamic duo of Team Waite. They run a cyclist training program together called Waite Endurance and have won the Firecracker 50 as a co-ed duo team two years in a row.

Adapting to Aging with the Help of ASEA

When we started with ASEA®, we were racing in the XTERRA Triathlon. Cody was a nationally ranked professional, while I competed as a National Champion Amateur. XTERRA Triathlon includes swimming, mountain biking, and trail running over and through challenging mountainous terrain. Now that we’re in our 40s, we have narrowed our focus to endurance mountain bike racing. Our pedigree includes races as short as 20 minutes for “short-track” racing and as long as 7+ hours for events like the iconic Leadville 100 in Colorado, where Cody finished in the top 15 twice in recent seasons.

Our training consists of indoor and outdoor cycling with an emphasis on training our aerobic energy systems by maximizing the use of fat for fuel for longer distances. In this training, the use of ASEA products has helped us immensely.* We also strength train twice a week year-round to maintain strength and muscle mass as we get older. Total training volume varies between 10 and 20 hours per week, depending on the time of year and training phase we’re currently engaged in. Between the thoughtful training program and our use of ASEA supplements and products, we work hard to maintain our youthfulness and set an example for younger athletes to not slow down.

Products That Look and Feel Different

Our favorite ASEA product after ASEA® REDOX Cell Signaling Supplement, is the RENUAdvanced® skin care line. We are both outdoor athletes and expose our skin to the damaging outdoor environment of sun and wind. These harsh elements take a toll on our skin and leave us feeling and looking pretty beat up. With the RENUAdvanced skin care line, we feel that it replenishes and nourishes our skin and keeps us looking and feeling great.

Maintaining the appearance of that young, healthy face is becoming more of a challenge, but with ASEA on our side, we are confident we can remain feeling and looking younger as each year passes. Cody even uses the RENU28® Revitalizing Redox Gel and both the RENUAdvanced Intensive Redox Serum and Ultra Replenishing Moisturizer as an aftershave application to reduce irritation from shaving and to leave his face feeling soft and smooth.

This year (2020), Cody was selected to compete in the inaugural LeadBoat Challenge in August 2020 in Colorado. This event combines two challenging standalone events with back-to-back race days consisting of the Leadville 100 MTB race (103 miles, 12,000-feet vertical gain) followed the next morning by the Steamboat Gravel Race (144 miles, 9000-feet vertical gain). The race gathers some of the world’s most competitive endurance cycling competitors. This ultra-endurance event will test Cody’s limits on pacing, nutrition, and recovery, where ASEA will come in very handy!
