ASEA sponsored athlete Matt Roberts lives in San Diego and started competing in triathlons in 2019. Prior to this, he ran four years of collegiate cross-country track and moved his focus to triathlon five years after he graduated. As a natural athlete, triathlon has channeled his competitive drive and technical interests into a fun and fulfilling activity. His goal is to become a professional triathlete by 2021.

Nutrition is the Key to Endurance Racing

Endurance sports are unlike anything else. I specialize in Ironman 70.3 events, and the race generally takes around four to four-and-a-half hours. It’s a lot of time to be in your own head, which is the ultimate test of competition. To do well in such an event you have to ensure you’re firing on all cylinders. So much can go wrong in an event like that: Maybe your training wasn’t just right or the environmental conditions quickly deteriorate or your equipment malfunctions or you’re just having an off day. In any combination of scenarios, you need to be able to have the mental fortitude to adapt and overcome.

Nutrition is a huge component of triathlon racing and training. It’s one of the few sports where you’re actively consuming upwards of 1,200 calories during the event itself. Race nutrition is important, but the aggregate effect of your nutrition over the hundreds and thousands of hours of training overshadows that quick four-hour span in the race. Your body is under constant stress during triathlon training and has to be fueled properly. Triathlon racing comes down to three things: stress, rest, and recovery. If you take one of those three out, you will fail. I rely on products from ASEA to make sure I’m meeting nutritional standards and can focus on training and resting.

Proper Nutrition Makes the Difference

While change does come with proper nutrition and the right supplements, there is time required for lasting change. To achieve athletic improvement you can’t expect to reach your fitness goals in a day or a week’s time. Athletic performance is built slowly, layer by layer, with rest and patience.

This is why my favorite ASEA products are the ASEA® VIA™ line of nutritional supplements. As a triathlete, there is a required foundational level of health and fitness that is necessary before you can reach the upper limits of human performance. An often unsung hero is the supplements, techniques, and routines that ensure this foundation is in place. The ASEA VIA line is that foundation for me. It covers all the bases, ensuring that all the systems in my body are being taken care of so that I can focus on my training.*

Health Habits Lead to a Healthy Life

When taken regularly, the VIA line ensures that I can routinely perform my daily activities with no restraints. When I stop meeting those basic needs and focus only on performance, bad things can happen.*

With any other supplement, they are intended to be just that; supplemental. They do not replace healthy habits or proper dietary nutrition, but when taken in tandem with those two things they can elevate whatever lifestyle you’re seeking to maintain. The VIA line for me is the building block of every other health and supplemental routine I have.
